Gee & Chris – Boat Handling Day
Overall an excellent course led by an unflappable teacher. Tim’s sense of calm gave us a lot of confidence to try, and if unavoidable, fail. Tim, gave us lots of practical tips on how to maximise getting the desired outcome whilst helming and also how to get out of trouble if required. The gorgeous day helped make this a rather wonderful day out too. Clean base with easy parking and friendly users. Chris and I would not hesitate to ask for Tim specifically for any future courses.

Leah Gawthorpe – Skippered Sailing Day on Oceanis 37 “Splash” – Heart FM Solent Prize Winner
Thank you ever so sooo much for a amazing time and experience my friends and myself had a wonderful time.. loved Jack very professional and friendly. I can’t thank you enough will def come back xxx

Gareth Allen – Bareboat Charter on Dufour 385 “Saleana” – Round the Island Race
A great weekend aboard Saleana for this years Round the Island race. Chris and Melanie could not have been more friendly, helpful and accommodating. The boat was clean, comfortable and well maintained. Will certainly use again for future charters and come highly recommend. Thank you.

Andy Thomas – Bareboat Charter on Dufour 385 “Saleana” – Round the Island Race
Fantastic charter of Universal’s Dufour 385 ‘Saleana’ for the Round the Island 2015 race. Fantastic boat handled beautifully. Great friendly service before and during the charter, many thanks!

Tracey Blake – Skippered Day Sail on Dufour 385 “Saleana”
I looked at various activities to do during a short stay in the New Forest, and I must say I am delighted that I decided to spend the day sailing with Universal Yacht Charter.

All of my enquiries prior to the day were handled quickly and efficiently. We had two young children (3 and 5) in our group and had concerns about their safety, but the team where fantastic and we had an amazing day.

‘Captain Chris’ was brilliant with the kids, and gave the adults an amazing introduction to sailing, the whole experience was professional from start to finish, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone. A fabulous day out!

Bareboat Yacht Charter on Dufour 365 “Anhinga”
The whole experience was absolutely fantastic. Well organised and simple to charter, and the boat was in exceptional condition – very well maintained. In fact, better than any boat of a similar age I’ve been on. Great weekend of sailing, well facilitated by Universal. Thanks

Joanne – Skippered Sailing day on Dufour 385 “Saleana”
I’ve always wanted to have a go at the sailing and when this came up on groupon decided to have a go. What a brilliant day. Very friendly Instructor explained everything in simple terms but went into detail when more was asked. Lunch was provided and was very good. Would love to do it again as this was certainly a good taster day and has given me the enthusiasm to find out more.

David Bailes – Bareboat Charter on Dufour 365 “Anhinga”
Thank you ever so much for making the whole experience of booking with Universal so simple, especially considering the process started almost 7,000 miles away.

Richard Williams, Liberty Global – Skippered Charter on Southerly 42 “Firesong”
Just a short note to thank you for helping me set up a great few days sailing for me and my colleagues last week. The skipper Peter was excellent and helped us get the most from our experience – and the boat was fabulous and the weather came through in the end. I organised this sailing trip over 3 days for my team. Picking up and dropping them off at various locations in the Solent. Chris was very helpful in confirming the feasibility of my itinerary and selecting the right boat. We chose ‘Firesong’ – and she was a cracker. Very well equipped and a joy to sail – particularly in strong winds. Which was fortunate as we had gale force winds on the first day! Fortunately the gales only lasted for the first day and the weather was absolutely perfect with good winds and sunshine for the remaining days. Under the superb guidance of Peter our pro skipper we managed to cover most of the Solent from Wootton to the Needles. All the pick-ups and drops offs went to plan and my colleagues, mostly novices, had a great time – which they will remember for many years to come. Finally thanks to Melanie who worked in the background at Universal helping to put it all together.

Julian Duffill – Oceanis 37 “Splash” & Oceanis 50 “Night Swimming”
Had a wonderful week onboard Oceanis 50 “Night Swimming”. The boat was in fantastic condition and the handover by Chris was really useful. We have also chartered Oceanis 37 “Splash”, which is another great yacht, I would highly recommend either. Great communications from the whole team. Also found the service very flexible and great value.

Nick McCarthy – Holman 26 “Teasel”
Weekend on Holman 26 “Teasel. Had a wonderful weekend sailing Teasel around the Solent in great weather conditions. The boat was in excellent condition and the welcome and handover process immaculately planned and implemented. Thanks to Chris, Jamie and Melanie for a great time.

Bike & Sail Weekend
A brilliant weekend whatever the weather. We were greeted by Chris and the boats were well stocked, the safety briefing succint and to the point. We set off on a glorious evening and managed to get in some sailing before the wind dropped sufficiently to warrent reverting back to engine power. A lively evening with both crews indulging in banter, beer and locally cooked food in a local pub. There is something sopophoric about sleeping on a yacht and a comfortable night was had inspite of the howling gale. The heating on board kept us warm as did the Honeyed JD!

We started the day with the only start one can have – the smell of bacon frying – we ate a hearty fare before dressing for the days cycling. The Crew had delivered the bikes in one piece and the IOW delivered everything in terms of weather, scenery and variation of track maing the days cycling. Three of the fitter ones persevered to the Needles view point for an awesome finish to a great days cycling.

The facilities at the Yacht Club were excellent and enabled us to have a hot shower, Duncan our skipper eventually mastering the simple token operated system. Again, a lively evening inspite of the efforts of the day and we retired sated and tired but with the promise of a lively sail out of harbour since the weather had not abated

After our second hearty breakfast we left the harbour in isolation as it was still early and the weather best described as ‘stormy’ The boats performed really well and an exciting transit of the Solent ensued – Universal delivered on every aspect. Thanks guys!

Bike & Sail Weekend
Sea & land at its best! A fantastic opportunity to combine sea and land. Exhilarating on the water and can be as exhausting as you want cycling on the land. Even though it was winter and cold, the warm weather gear provided to us made it comfortable on the boat. Particularly enjoyed the relaxed start to the day eating breakfast on the boats, with a gentle sea breeze, before setting off on our bikes into the beautiful countryside. The land back home is remarkably flat. In contrast, there are hills on the IOW that give you excellent views back to the mainland or out to sea. There are easier, flatter routes to the same locations if you want to take them. The organisation was excellent, particularly on how smoothly our bikes were delivered to us by the Team on to the Quayside in time for us to cycle in the morning. Chris has to be congratulated on having such a slick operation. Food in the evening in the local pubs was really nice and a great end to the day for all of us. Highly recommended especially if you can get a group of your mates or couples together who have similar interests for the sea & cycling.

Bike & Sail Weekend
Surf (sail) and Turf (cycle) at its best! Had a fantastic time from start to finish! Sailing out of Lymington in the dark on Friday evening with the thought of good food and beer in Yarmouth on arrival with friends was a great way to start the weekend. Up the next morning, good breakfast on board followed by a fab days cycling with great scenery and views on the island. Saturday night as it should be, pubs and log fires then back to the boats for a good nights sleep (despite my snoring cabin mate!). Not been a sailor Sunday was superb, Yarmouth to the Hamble in a strong wind with the boats leaning, time at the helm, tea and bacon butties, great skipper. Make the time to book this weekend with a group of mates, you’ll love it!

Bike & Sail Weekend
The Bike and Sail Weekend is an excellent opportunity to get a group of friends together who either enjoy sailing and cycling or want to have a taster of both activities. The sailing was invigorating and made the most of the windy if cold weather over a winter weekend. We sailed from Hamble to Yarmouth on the Friday before spending the Saturday cycling on the Isle of Wight. As an experienced cyclist it was great to have the chance to go off road on the more extreme and technical terrain while the less fit and less experienced members used the roads to make their weary way round the Island. Was great to meet up at pubs for lunch and drinks and Chris our guide for the weekend made sure that even the social cyclists in our group knew where they were going. An excellent night in Yarmouth was the precursor to our Sunday sail around the Solent before returning to Hamble. The boats are excellent and comfy with all facilities required. Chris, our host for the weekend, was great fun and ensured everyone enjoyed themselves but remained safe. A great weekend – one that we will no doubt be repeating in the near future. Thanks to Chris and Duncan our skippers!

Bike & Sail Weekend
Some might conclude we were a little mad to contemplate a sailing – biking weekend in February. Well what an awesome weekend it was. I joined the boats at Lymington having enjoyed a quick refreshment in the Mayflower whilst waiting on the yachts. A quick safety briefing and we were off to Yarmouth in the dark enjoying the views of Lymington lights fade into the distance. Immediately apparent was our skippers ability to put everyone at ease within minutes of being aboard…..despite me ruining his night vision with my torch! Having arrived at Yarmouth it wasn’t long before we found ourselves at a local pub for top food and a beer or two before bedding down on the boats. Plenty of space a comfy cabin ensured a great nights sleep.

Saturday mandated a switch from my sea to cycling legs. A great days cycling around the IOW providing some spectacular views. Some of the guys did seem to make hard work of the small hills. Found a great pub for lunch – beware pie and mash together with a couple of pints is not the best preparation for a 10m treck back!

Sunday saw us depart Yarmouth to Southampton with a good breeze to give us an exciting pace. With great instruction we really did have a fun sail back each of us having time at the helm. Great scenery and the thrill of being under sail.

If you want a unique weekend combining land and sea with as much or as little cycling as you like you can’t beat this.

Bike & Sail Weekend
Get some friends, get on a boat, get to the IOW then get cycling… A cracking sailing/cycling weekend away with some friends.

The boats were fantastic: well equipped, spacious and in excellent condition. All sailing gear (warm stuff as we went in January!) including life-jackets was provided for us. The two skippers were both good humoured and thoroughly competent. We got a safety briefing before we left the Hamble marina and a refresher before going out on the second day.
We all got a chance to drive the boats and do some sail hoisting/trimming during the weekend.

Sleeping on-board was comfortable and the boats both had facilities and supplies for making proper breakfasts (bacon sarnies etc.).

The cycling route was left to our discretion. Obviously there are easier/harder routes in and around the Isle of Wight and the range of ability within the group isn’t easy to gauge by anyone but yourselves; so choosing your own route is definitely the best option. We went on a reasonable all-day ride with a half-time break in a pub.

We had two evening meals in Yarmouth – both of which were excellent quality and reasonably priced. Sadly I can’t remember the name of the pub…but it’s close to the marina.

All in all it was a fantastic weekend away – made very easy and relaxing by some excellent organisation by Chris at Universal. Some good banter with friends, some nice food & drink and enough cycling to tip the scales in favour of it being billable as a ‘healthy weekend away’ to partners!

Bike & Sail Weekend
This was a fantastic weekend and I would highly recommend it. We went in the winter and it was cold but even so I enjoyed every single minute. The boats we used were incredibly well equipped and the skippers were the perfect mix of safety oriented and good fun. We were all allowed to helm the boats and the sailing was tailored to our levels of experience. The cycling round the IOW was great – a few hills and some nice pubs to have lunches and evening meals in. It’s a great activity weekend for a few friends and you feel as though you’ve had a lot of fun and also done some exercise at the end of the weekend. The two skippers we had were Chris and Duncan – they were a good laugh and very responsible. They even came cycling with us although I’m not sure they usually offer this – I think you get a route map and can choose your own places to go. Our skipper, Duncan struggled a bit with the cycling but his bike wasn’t the best but he’s obviously a very competent sailor. I think it would be hard not to enjoy the weekend whatever the weather. Definitely recommended. Get some friends together and you won’t regret it.

Mark Osgood – Dufour 365 “Anhinga” – Bareboat Yacht Charter
Great weekend with family and friends on Dufour 365 “Anhinga”. She was great to sail, and everything about the charter was extremely professional. Can’t wait to get out again next year.

Graham Holbrook – Hallberg Rassy 36 “Eowyn” – Bareboat Yacht Charter
We had a very enjoyable weekend sailing (occasionally!), a bit more wind would have been very welcome but never mind.
Thank you to you, Chris and the chap we handed the yacht back to, great service from start to finish. When we’re next chartering in the Solent Universal will be the first place I look.

Matthew Bligh – Holman 26 “Teasel” Bareboat Yacht Charter
Tara and I had an absolutely fantastic weekend on Teasel. It was a real pleasure to charter something a bit out of the ordinary.
The handover and admin was all very efficient. I was particularly grateful for your flexibility over the handover time, which cut me some much-needed slack to navigate the M25 on Friday afternoon! Thank you also for answering the many questions I had before the charter. I will definitely be looking to charter from your company again before the year is out.

Chris Dods – Dufour 365 “Anhinga” Bareboat Yacht Charter
I have chartered with two other companies in the solent. I rate the professionalism of UYC and find the comprehensive nature of the paperwork a comfort. The yachts I have chartered have been in great condition and this as well as the good level of personal service I have received will keep me coming back. I would recommend UYC to friends.

Jim Weatherseed – Oceanis 343 “Diagon” Bareboat Yacht Charter
Very good support and service. Thank for enabling a good weekend of fun.

Nick Hollis – Dufour 385 “Saleana” Round the Island Race Charter
We were overwhelmed with how good the service and yacht cleanliness were compared with several years chartering from Gosport. We will definitely be back!  Chris clearly takes great pride in ensuring everything is set up 110%, and to have that personal touch was a revelation.  Brilliant!

Justin Smith – Holman 26 “Teasel” Bareboat Yacht Charter
We had great fun sailing her and Teasel had many admiring comments. Of course we didn’t let on that she wasn’t ours! Many thanks for the history booklet. Really interesting to read about the boat and Kim Holman her designer. Thanks for sorting the weather that we ordered, it made all the difference.

Ben O’Sullivan – Holman 26 “Teasel” Bareboat Yacht Charter
Thanks very much for a great weekend, Teasel is a lovely boat and a real credit to you. A lot of hard work has gone into her and she was the recipient of many admiring glances and favourable comments. We will certainly consider a further charter in the future and be happy to recommend Universal to others.

David Bailes – Oceanis 343 “Diagon” Bareboat Yacht Charter
Excellent service from all at Universal, the initial contact, booking process and all paperwork, was carried out via telecom and emails from Singapore.
Obviously long distance bookings are no problem for Universal Yacht Charter. The yacht was in good condition and maintained well, a pleasure to sail and well equipped for the weekend. Hand over for receiving the yacht was quick, but thorough and efficient, enabling an early start to be made. The handover on return was timed perfectly, eliminating delays in getting away.
All in all a very good, organised charter from start to finish. I will definitely use Universal again.

Ian Jackson – Southerly 42 “Dandom” Skippered Charter
Thank you for your professional service over the last couple of weeks. It is a pleasure to deal in such a way that makes things easier and with no hassle. Your service has been professional and prompt from initial enquiry, the charter and thereafter. Food was good value. Jamie was a great skipper, and my fellow directors enjoyed their experience, and would be keen to book another day. I will be in contact at some point soon to arrange another day out. I am also currently doing day skipper theory and will be looking to arrange the practical course in the near future, so subject to logistics I may well speak to you about this as well.

Mark Kemp – Holman 26 “Teasel” Bareboat Yacht Charter
Had a great weekend, it was a pleasure sailing Teasel, our first experience in a wooden vessel, great fun, back to basics, she sailed true and steady in good winds, first reef in on Sunday morning log even registered 6.1 knots at one point. True to say we had more interest in our arrival and departure from Cowes yacht haven than we ever have had on our regular charter yachts, pity we didn’t know a lot more about her.

Chris Leivers – Dufour 385 “Saleana” Bareboat Yacht Charter
We had a great weekend thanks, and would dearly like to book another trip later this year hopefully for longer and further afield. A superb yacht of a very high standard. A great time was had by all on board, and look forward to sailing her again!

Owen Price – Southerly 42 “Dandom” Bareboat Yacht Charter
That’s great. Many thanks, much appreciated. We loved the boat; you and the office looked after us very well.

James & Tom Ritchie – Dufour 385 “Saleana” Bareboat Yacht Charter
We had a brilliant time. Boat was perfect and the whole experience was super efficient. We will certainly be back!
