Solent sailing area

The Solent and Isle of Wight is one of the premier yachting and cruising areas in the world and has many beautiful locations with many harbours, marinas, rivers, creeks and beaches to explore, including Cowes, Yarmouth, Lymington, Beaulieu River, Newtown River, Hamble River and Portsmouth Harbour.

Just outside of the Solent are other great cruising locations, including Chichester Harbour to the East and Poole Harbour to the West.

Best known as the world's premier yachting centre, Cowes is the Island's main port with a natural harbour at the mouth of the Medina River. Yachtsmen from all over the world participate in the season's prestigious sailing events, of which the best known is Cowes Week.

Everyone has heard of the Motor Museum at Beaulieu but few will have seen just how beautiful the river is leading from the Solent, past Buckler’s Hard and ending up at Palace House. A nature reserve teeming with birds greets you as you enter the river.

River Hamble

Second only to Cowes in terms of importance, the Hamble River is home to many thousands of yachts moored at various marinas and on piles. A delightful and picturesque river, there are a number of places to moor.
